If you have not heard about Tarte shape tape I am going to assume you have been living under a rock. This is easily one of the most raved about concealers that I have been wanting to get my hands on since the day it broke the internet!
I had almost accepted that I would never get a chance to experience this concealer due to Tarte’s high delivery charge to the UK. Yet, when I was in Paris with my best friend we were able to get our hands on a tube from Sephora and I have not looked back since. Read on to hear about my experience and thoughts on the Tarte Shape Tape concealer…

What it claims: “Meet Tarte’s iconic, “can’t live without” Shape Tape Concealer & discover why one is sold every 12 seconds*! This vegan, full-coverage formula infused with tape technology instantly helps brighten, smooth & give the skin a firmer, more lifted look.”
Packaging
The compact plastic tube allows for easy travel and storage. Also, it is an excellent choice that the tube is clear as you can see the colour of the product which is always helpful if you have multiple shades. The doe-foot applicator is relatively large for a concealer which may be helpful for dotting concealer under the eyes or it may be an inconvenience if you are wanting to be more precise on concerns such as acne.
Shades
As Tarte has previously come under fire for their shade ranges it is no shock that the 30 shades of concealer they stock are quite inclusive and well distributed. The range is inclusive with varying undertones so hopefully, everyone will be able to find a shade that will work for them.
Application
To apply this concealer I dot it under my eyes and on any areas, I wish to highlight or add extra coverage such as acne and use my damp Real Techniques sponge to blend this in. I do warn you to use this sparingly especially if you do not like to be flawless because this does camouflage everything.
As it is on the thicker side I find it is best to use a damp sponge rather than a brush to smooth it out and give a creamy, even, creaseless finish. I set my concealer with either the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder or Too Faced Translucent powder with my Real Techniques powder sponge.
Coverage
This is definitely a full coverage concealer and you should expect it to cancel out anything on your face. I find applying less is more as you want to be sure that you do not end up with too much product on your face and end up with a cakey mess.
Wear
This formula goes on beautifully smooth and even and if set I found it lasts phenomenally. It sits well on any dry acne for a couple of hours and it does not cake under my eyes at all throughout the day. The coverage will last well even after 12+ hours of wear with only a little bit of meltdown.
Pros
- Full coverage
- Smooth and non-cakey
- Long-wearing
- Vegan
Cons
- Can appear cakey/thick if over applied
Final Thoughts
There is a reason why this concealer is a cult favourite among the beauty community. It is high coverage, long-wearing and smooth… everything you could ever want in a concealer. If you have not already tried this (for some reason) I push you to give it a go because you will not be disappointed. Be sure to go in with a light hand and the rest will do itself.
