Anastasia Beverly Hill palettes are a cult classic among the beauty community and are constantly raved about by the masses. I had always been hesitant to invest in them as I do already have my fair share of palettes but when I came across an impressive deal I felt the opportunity was far too good to pass up. What it claims: “Almost certain to become the most-coveted palette of the season, Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette features 14 highly pigmented, long-lasting powders in a spectrum of foolproof neutrals, hypnotic iridescents and glamorous metallics. There are pastel pink, warm brown and peachy shades, making this the perfect palette for both day and night-time looks – and it’s more than a little bit ‘bridal’ (do we hear wedding bells!?) With seven brand new shades and seven familiar favourites, this cleverly curated collection that will give your lid looks a new lease of – oh-so enviable – life.“
Shades
When this palette was originally released there was a notable divide in opinions on the colour story. Many felt the palette was unoriginal and had been done numerous times before whereas others felt it was their perfect palette as they would get a lot of use out of every single shade. This selection of hues is my ultimate go-to for any occasion whether it is going to lunch with some friends or clubbing. The orangey/bronze tones do not lean too close to red but rather copper which I find is the most flattering on my skin tone and the muted pink/mauves always look fresh and complimentary. The inclusion of a dark brown and black are perfect for any smokey look or liner which means it easy to make a multitude of looks with simply the one palette.
Shades included:
- Tempera – Ultra-matte velvety beige
- Glistening – Iridescent gold with a hint of pink reflect
- Orange Soda – Ultra-matte pastel peach
- Rose Pink – Rose gold with a soft pink iridescent hue
- Sultry – A hybrid satin metallic finish warm chocolate brown
- Bronze – Metallic gold bronze
- Mulberry – Ultra-matte mulberry
- Dusty Rose – Ultra-matte dusty lilac
- Fairy – Multidimensional light gold
- Burnt Orange – Ultra-matte deep orange
- Sienna – Ultra-matte earthy brown
- Rustic – Ultra-matte deep cinnamon brown
- Cyprus Umber – Ultra-matte dark coffee
- Noir – Ultra-matte deep carbon black
Packaging
Keeping in line with the rest of ABH’s eyeshadow palettes the 14 shade palette feels luxurious with the felt cover and a generously sized mirror on the flap. The palette comes with a dual-ended brush that is surprisingly nice and soft and I can see being used by many buyers whereas I do prefer using my normal set of brushes. As I have expressed before I love squared eyeshadow pans over long thin ones as they are easy to dip your brush into and swirly evenly. My one complaint with the packaging is that the felt makes it very easy to get dirty from other makeup if it is left floating around in your makeup bag.
Application
As these shadows are quite soft there is some kickback but nothing as dramatic as the subculture palette! It is just important to note that you should tap the excess of the brush before application so you don’t end up in a big mess with lots of fall out.
Formula/Wear
This eyeshadow formula is incredible and blends like a dream! Whilst the selection of matte eyeshadows are buttery smooth and easily blended what keeps me coming back to this palette is the metallic shades. They are rich, pigmented and SO shiny and when applying I do not even need to wet my brush to get the metallic pay off I desire which is unheard of!
The shadows have great staying power with or without a primer and I find that they stay put throughout the entire night which means you can flick out some liner with the black shadow and it will for sure still be there by the end of the night!
Pros
- Neutral shade range that is easy to wear
- Buttery/blendable formula
- High shine metallic shades
- Deluxe packaging with mirror + brush
Cons
- Can be expensive to justify if you are not an eyeshadow fanatic
- Slight kickback in the pan
Final Thoughts
If you have been pondering over whether to invest in an ABH palette I would highly recommend you give one a go! I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Rose Gold Vault so I was able to get three palettes for a very discounted value (£26 a palette!) so I would urge you to keep an eye out for future vaults/deals if that is your thing nevertheless, it would be a perfect gift to ask for your birthday/Christmas or you could treat yourself. I find myself always gravitating to this palette in particular as the shades are my perfect cup of tea and the formula has never let me down!
