Lush is a brand I respect and will continue to support due to their extensive effort to be a cruelty-free, vegan and environmentally-friendly brand. Their dedication to society is evident in their campaigns on social media and the incentive to recycle used packaging with the five-pot scheme where taking back five empty pots earns you a complimentary fresh face mask (could be rosy cheeks if this review entices you!). The use of fresh ingredients and the transparency of their products make me feel safe when using them and confident in what the product is intended to do. Read on to hear about my opinion of the Lush Rosy Cheeks Fresh Face Mask…

A simple blend of kaolin, calamine and Turkish rose oil delicately calms the skin and restores balance. Whether you’re feeling hot and bothered or just love showering your complexion with roses, cleansing calamine and kaolin will gently remove dirt while exquisite rose oil nourishes and tones your face. Benefits
- Toning on the skin to help reduce redness and balance skin tone
- Absorbs excess oils and gently polishes the skin leaving you soft and glowing
- Retain moisture in the skin
Rose oil
Tones and soothes the skin and helps to rebalance skin tone, restoring radiance and elasticity. It is also thought to be an astringent, reducing the appearance of broken capillaries and reduce redness. Thought to be native to the Middle East, rose water and rose oil were used for centuries to fragrance and heal scars. The scent of rose is used by aromatherapists to restore inner balance and is considered by some to be an aphrodisiac.
Calamine Powder
Calamine powder is made up of zinc oxide, which is very effective at reflecting UV rays, protecting the skin from sun damage. The oxide also has antipruritic (meaning it soothes itches) and antiseptic properties. It mattifies, cleanses and soothes irritated and acne-prone skin. The absorbent property of calamine keeps the skin soft and dry, which makes the powder an ideal base for dusting powders and deodorants. It also benefits self-preserving products, as it absorbs and retains liquid ingredients in formulae and creates an inhospitable environment for the microorganisms responsible for decay.
Kaolin
Kaolin clay cleanses the skin by absorbing excess oil and water into itself and by making a gently buffing paste when mixed with water. Its ability to absorb moisture into itself means it is an excellent ingredient to support product formulas that are self-preserving, by hiding water within itself away from bacteria, yeasts or moulds.
Application
To apply, smooth a generous layer of this mask over your skin and leave for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. As you apply, I would recommend gently buffing the mask into the skin to get the most out of the exfoliating benefits.
Due to the fresh ingredients, this mask has to be stored in the fridge (makes it feel even more cooling and refreshing when you apply!) and used within 28 days. The calamine powder has a mattifying effect, so if you have dry skin, I would recommend going straight in with a moisturiser after so you don’t feel uncomfortably tight.
Pros
- Soothes sensitive and irritable skin
- Vegan and cruelty free!
- On the inexpensive side compared to some Lush masks
- Calming rose scent
Cons
- Having to use it up within 28 days although that is the cost of such fresh ingredients!
Final thoughts
This mask is perfect for those who have irritable, sensitive skin as this will visibly reduce the redness and calm down any ticklishness. This is one of the gentlest masks I have used, and my skin felt incredibly soft and calm after, and even the next morning, I could see the difference in my skin tone. If you are someone that struggles with irritated skin after masks I would 100% recommend you give Rosy Cheeks ago!
